I heard a strange sound as I backed out of the driveway. Not a thump. Not scraping. Just a subtle change in how the usually quiet rubber meets concrete. For a moment, I chalked it up to having the window down and the radio off for once--maybe that's just what tires sound like--but instinct had me inspect before driving off.
And lucky, too, because plain as day I saw the head of what would turn out to be a three-inch rod (not screw, not nail, a rod for crying out loud) deeply embedded into my deflating tire. And I thought for sure my afternoon by the pool would be ruined.
Thankfully, Mr. T had flown out of town instead of driving so I had access to another car which gave me the opportunity to spend the better part of a day hanging out with a bosom friend. For those who haven't read the venerable Anne of Green Gables, a "bosom friend" is, according to the carrot head herself: "An intimate friend, you know--a really kindred spirit to whom I can confide my inmost soul."
And so Saturday's happiness came poolside with my bestie, watching her two half-fish boys cannonball and talking souls and summer plans over chocolate-covered strawberries. So happy.
